Mobile phone vs. Megaphone

If you’re using your church’s mobile app primarily to push more information (instead of listening to your people), you may be using the wrong device.

Most church apps are often used only in two ways – either to let the congregation access resources – old sermons, information, etc., or to be told more/new things.

A pastor I was talking with uttered the honest truth – “Come to think of it, the only thing we ask them to bring are themselves and their tithes on Sunday. The rest of the time we are telling them stuff, but I can’t remember when they told us anything.”

“When was the last time you asked them anything on the app?”, I asked.

“I don’t think we’ve ever done that,” he replied, sheepishly.

Takeaway

A mobile phone is not a megaphone.

The first is for you to talk and listen to people. The second is used only to shout louder.

Are you really listening to your people? Do share!

Most of the successful people I’ve known are the ones who do more listening than talking.
