“Who said only your marketing department can market on behalf of your company?” I asked a client during a conversation about how to maximize their marketing potential. 

“Who else can market? Our IT guys? How can an IT guy help with our marketing?” he shot back.

“Let me show you an example,” I replied and showed him the image below and said:

“If I were the IT Head of Eagles, I’d have ensured that every laptop of an Eagles employee would fly high with the brand’s logo displayed flamboyantly on it.”

He was looking at the image intently when I asked, “So can someone who’s not in marketing help with marketing?”

All I heard was crickets. I mean, eagles!

The best Chief Marketing Officer is one that leads not only the marketing department but the entire organization in marketing.

Every employee in the organization has marketing potential and a role that he/she can play if the leadership is intentional about it. 

Marketing is not just for the marketing department but for IT as well.

Takeaway
