Vimeo launched its IPO last month, but did you know these interesting facts about this video hosting platform?

  1. Vimeo’s audience is primarily outside the U.S.
  2. HBO show ‘High Maintenance’ started out as a web series on Vimeo.
  3. It successfully defended itself against litigating behemoths such as Capitol Records and Sony.

But the coolest thing about Vimeo is that it’s standing up to one of the biggest monopolies in the video hosting world – YouTube.

Founded in 2004, Vimeo has about 100 million registered members and a billion monthly views.

Many potential competitors stay away from a domain due to the presence of a giant there. The trick is to find your small niche in a big category.

While Vimeo is not the world’s biggest video platform, it’s the world’s biggest ad-free video platform.

Vimeo has a great team (confirming there’s no I in VMEO) and an even better positioning that streams its success to the world.
