Most people think they aren’t marketers or salespeople.
In fact, they often view salespeople negatively and very few know the difference between marketing and sales.
But in reality, we are all marketing and selling something or the other.
Recently, I asked a group of people how many brands or offerings they had recommended to others.
I used an interactive tool to let them respond in real time from their mobile phones.
The options were 0, 1, 2-5, 6-12, and 13+.
None of the attendees even chose 0 or 1!
As you can see in the image below, 20% of the attendees chose 2-5, 7% chose 6-12, and a whopping 73% had marketed more than 13 brands in their lives.
I’m sure the actual number is much higher.
The truth is that we are all marketers.
We share with our near and dear ones brands we love, believe in, and have benefitted from.
Marketing is actually second nature to us human beings.
Yet very few brands leverage the potential of getting their happy customers to tell the world about their brands.
In fact, these happy customers can reach their prospective peers far more effectively than brands can.
