The ABCs of marketing

Halfway through a set, a standup comedian dropped a bomb that caused me to sit down and think.

“Don’t you get annoyed by small talk? What about if someone keeps trying to talk to you but you don’t feel it’s important?“

He received a booming “yes!” and a loud applause from the audience.

“Why do you then clear your schedule and shell out the $$$ to come and listen to a stranger talk to you non-stop for 1 hour? 

He moved on, but the marketer in me remained glued to the spot. 

Why would an audience clear their schedule for a webinar, pay top dollar for our product, and spend precious time engaging with our website? 

Because they find us: 

a. interesting

b. relatable, and

c. worth it

We need to shift our marketing focus and enable users to meaningfully engage with our brand. This will ensure they truly fall under the spell of these marketing ABCs!

Takeaway

Even the alphabet says R before S – relationship first, sale later.

But many marketers are selling first, relating later, and wondering why they aren’t seeing the fruit.
